Community Engagement for Sustainability
With creative works, culture and heritage programs, libraries, performance venues and green spaces, FIU is a resource for our students and our communities. This also includes a heritage museum, an art museum and multiple gallery spaces. We invite you to explore all FIU has to offer in support of SUSTAINABLE CITIES AND COMMUNITIES.

Fostering Arts, Culture and Heritage
As Miami's public research university, Florida International University offers unique programming reflective of the diversity and heritage that make up our communities. With art, music, entertainment and cultural experiences, FIU has something for everyone!
Record and Preserve Cultural Heritage
Florida International University delivers and supports projects that record, preserve and provide public access to intangible cultural heritage, with particular strengths in the histories, traditions, music, languages and lived experiences of South Florida, Cuba, Latin America and the Caribbean.
The Community Data Curation: Preserving, Creating, and Narrating Everyday Stories initiative works directly with eight South Florida organizations to preserve local stories. FIU provides technology, training and support to create and preserve oral histories documenting migration, identity, neighborhood change and community life.
FIU is a founding institution of the Digital Library of the Caribbean (dLOC), an international cooperative digital library housed at FIU. The project has preserved more than 4 million pages of materials, including oral and popular histories, literature, poetry and music. FIU Libraries’ Cuban Living History Project preserves more than 400 recorded interviews with Cuban exiles, documenting their experiences, perspectives and memories for future generations.
The Díaz-Ayala Cuban and Latin American Popular Music Collection preserves approximately 150,000 items documenting Cuban and Latin American musical heritage, including recordings, sheet music, radio programs and interviews with composers and performers. FIU continues to digitize fragile recordings to preserve this cultural heritage and expand public access.
The FIU Oral History Collection preserves interviews by students through coursework and FIU projects, creating a permanent and publicly accessible record of individual and community experiences.
